See better, drive safer: with the new and enhanced MirrorCam

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAIL

Mercedes-Benz Trucks is thrilled to introduce the new and enhanced MirrorCam on selected Actros models.

MirrorCam makes driving more fuel efficient, safer, and more comfortable.

If you’re a driver, you know the story: if you’re manoeuvring into a dark hall when it’s blazing sunshine outside, a traditional mirror is likely to show you nothing more than complete blackness. But MirrorCam is different: it recognises the situation and brightens the image in the displays to match the current lighting conditions – it’s manoeuvring made simple.

Now, the MirrorCam is available with enhanced features. During the optimisation process, the developers once again put the image parameters to the test. The result: an image that can also correctly reproduce a high contrast range. Other aspects that were adjusted include colour reproductions and adjustment of brightness. Altogether, this produces an even more detailed image that helps the driver even further.

The design of the camera arms has also changed: They are now shorter on both sides. This makes it easier for drivers to reverse straight at the first attempt because the perspective is more similar to that of traditional mirrors. Less overall width also means less risk of colliding with objects on the wayside. Last but not least, the camera arm now has a drip barrier on its underside, preventing rainwater from reaching the lens and creating unwanted optical effects.

Distance lines in the display on the A‑pillar help the driver better assess the traffic behind and to overtake safely.

When rounding bends, the camera image on the display on the inside of the bend changes accordingly. Unlike with a conventional mirror system, the driver can always keep an eye on the trailer end.

MirrorCam also assists the driver when reversing up the ramp: the main display then switches to a special wide‑angle mode. This allows the driver to keep a better eye on the trailer truck’s surroundings.
